Midwife Musings

I am a Certified Nurse Midwife. I am creating this blog as a way to journal my births - for my own personal and professional growth and to share the beauty of normal birth. My faith walk is very much tied up with midwifery. Midwifery has taught me just about everything I've learned about God. Update-now that it's been nearly 2 years since God allowed me to practice as a midwife, I have found that He reveals Himself in MANY ways if we seek Him. And he has been teaching me to seek Him, regardless of what work he calls me to. New update, I've been working as a "real" nurse midwife for a year and this blog has "morphed" into sharing my journey through life, whether it be from home, work, family. LIFE teaches us, not just our life work.

Bein Led to My Promised Land

So yesterday when I had a meltdown over my face hurting (it's got a SERIOUS allergic reaction going on to some unknown allergen) and started crying, Ashton rushed over to the loveseat to grab my sweatshirt and bring it to me. Much like he says "I need my B" when something makes him cry. I told him I am upset about my face hurting and I don't know what to do about it. I asked him to pray for me and he proceeded to offer the first "spontaneous" prayer I've ever heard him say. i.e. not the canned mealtime prayer. "Dear Jesus, thank you for today. Thank you for the sunshine. Amen" Well, I asked him to PRAY for me, didn't I? I didn't say will you pray for ME?

Anyway, it's been 4 days now of having hives, hives, and more hives all over my face and neck. Despite taking a Medrol dose pack, topical steroids, Benadryl 50mg q3', Aleve q8' If I'm awake, it hurts. Which is why I knocked myself out this afternoon with benadryl, vistaril and hydrocodone. Hope this is over before I leave for annual meeting! Finally have appt with derm the day before I leave!

I've been having FUN looking at different CNM opportunities around the country and visiting with midwives and their practices. It has been so wonderful to have several practices at least wanting to have phone interviews. So much to be said for making a fresh start! Not going to rush, going to wait until I know that I know that I know where I belong before going. Jeremiah 29:11, Deut 31:8, Romans 15:13, Psalm 25:12,13, John 15:7, Lam 3:25,26 have been some of my favorite verses to learn and lean on. Also, my "summary" of Joshua 3:3-5 When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God...follow it, then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." God's word has come alive to me so much in the past year and I am so glad I've learned to memorize scriptures. It is giving me the confidence I need as I step out in faith for the next leg of my journey. In myself, I know I don't have what it takes to succeed, but I know that with the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in me, I can accomplish ANYTHING he calls me to.
